  1. Dear Mr Miller,

Its been a really long time since i’ve written on here, but i’m now a sophomore in high school, I just wanted to say thank you because your class really changed me as a person, unlike most teachers you genuinely do care for your students. Your new students are very lucky to have you. I hope you’re doing well!

    Sincerely,
    Amaan Sandal

  2. Hello Mr. Miller,

I just wanted to say how are you? I also miss you teaching me and I always enjoyed being in you class. Everything you taught me helped me a lot. I am in 7 Grade right now. I am a student of Saxon middle school. Everything You taught me helped me in science math and social studies. Especially science, I am doing very well in science. I have a 99 and I do enjoy science. Thank you for teacing me to be a smart diligent student.
I wish you the best. 🙂

    Sincerely,

ps. I recent this because I think I summitted it in the wrong spot.

  3. Dear Mr. Miller,

Thanks for everything last year! I’m zooming through this year acing all my classes, and I thank you for that. On a different note, a couple of nights ago I came up with an unusual idea: why don’t I create a Lego Ideas project based off of my 5th grade experience with Cognitiveunderstandia? I thought I should let you know about my idea because your ideas inspired me to do this, and also to ask if maybe you could send me pictures of how your classroom would look like in a non-covid year, and some pictures of the older playground (corkscrew slide) would be great as well. Thanks for everything!

Your former student and forever part of Cognitiveunderstandia,
    Matthew Cruz

    1. P.S. There was something wrong with my computer and i thought my message didn’t send. I’m sorry for this inconvinience.

      Sincerely,

  5. Dear Mr. Miller,
How have you been? It’s been awhile now since we last talked and I thought that it would be nice to see how everything has been going. I’m in 7th grade now and well last year I used a lot of what I learned from you and I wanted to say thank you for preparing middle school and just it helped me a ton with math and science especially. Hope you had a great holiday and New Year, see you soon.

It is wonderful to know that you are finding success at Saxton and enjoying the experience. You are a tremendous student and I am certain you will continue to grow and expand your understanding in any endeavor you undertake.

The 2021-2022 class has begun establishing their states, as we recently held elections within Congnitiveunderstandia. We have a dynamic group of learners so I am certain they will have a productive and succesful academic year.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience and your kind words. Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season.

  8. Dear Mr Miller,
Hello, it’s Gabriella. I’m a 8th grader now. I was on this website and decided to leave a message. School sports at Saxton has been so fun last year and now this year. I do cross country and lacrosse and plan on doing volleyball in the winter. I miss your class and Middle school has been really hard but I’m very excited for High School. Well, it was nice leaving this message. Have a good school year.
    Sincerely,
    Gabriella Ardito

  9. Dear Mr. Miller,

I just wanted to say hi, i’m in 7th grade now. You have prepared me for middle school very well and I thank you for that.

    From,
    Nikolas Umina

    1. Dear Nikolas,

Appreciate your e-mail and hope that you are enjoying the start of your seventh grade year. I am certain you will do well.

      All the Best,
      Mr. Miller

  10. Dear Mr. Miller
I hope you had a good first and second day with your new students for this year. On the first day of school, I was honestly nervous but I got over my fears and went in there and did my best. I’m so very happy that what you taught me last year came in handy for the first and second day on 6th grade. With that, I have a question for you. Were you able to open up your other side of the room or no? Therefore I hope you have a good year with your student and what you’ll be doing with them this year like the quail and maybe even the trout. Wishing you and your class the best luck!!!

    Sincerely,
    Mayah Ardito!

    1. Dear Mayah,

Just a quick note of appreciation for your thoughtful note. Being nervous is expected when transitioning to a new school. However, there is no doubt in my mind that you will find success in all your endeavors. In regards to your question, we were able to open up the north side of the classroom and return the space to its original setup. As the year progresses it is our plan to bring back trout and continue with the quail — using your great leadership as an example. Wishing you continued success as you take on the challenges of sixth grade.

      All the Best,
      Mr. Miller

  11. Dear Mr Miller,

    Sincerely,
    Amaan Sandal

    1. Dear Amaan,

Great to receive your post and the kind words. I am pleased to know you are doing well and heading off to high school; time flies. Wishing you all the best, I am sure you will do well.

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

  12. Hi! I hope you’re classes are doing well and are staying safe. Middle school is a lot different than I imagined but I think you prepared us well. Have a safe rest of the year!

  13. Good afternoon, I hope both Mr.Miller and Mrs Halloran are safe I miss you guys so much and hope that your students are having a wonderful journey in Cognitiveunderstandia

  14. Dear Mr. Miller,
Its me Maryann from your class last year! I just wanted to ask how your class is going? I myself am enjoying 6th grade so far! My homeroom teacher is Mrs. Mistretta, and she is very nice! Are you enjoying your class? Also, do you still use this website? Its the end of the day and there are no messages 🙁

    Sincerely,
    Maryann Espinal

    1. Dear Maryann,

I pleased to know you are enjoying the sixth grade experience; I am certain you will develop your understanding and find success. The website has not been introduced to the new class as of today; it is our hope to incorporate this resource into our learning within the next few weeks. I wish you the best as you embark upon your new middle school journey.

      All the Best,
      Mr. Miller

  15. Dear Mr.Miller,

My choice for the innovation assignment is Steve Jobs and his creative teams. I specifically chose him because he created the company named Apple and this company creates Apple products, he began in 1976 with creating the first Apple computer which got more advanced trough a series of products that led him to creating the i-phone which is one of the most popular products in the world. Apple products make some things easier for some people like how they made an Apple watch so people wouldn’t have to carry a phone around with them all the time. To Conclude, Steve Jobs was an innovative man who tried to make shortcuts for society and very well succeeded and his team still continues to be innovative.

    Sincerely, Nazih

  16. Dear Mr.Miller,
Today I tried to do the assignment about Thomas Jefferson, when I went into the app RAZkids, I couldn’t find my name. I’m not so sure what to do now.I was looking forward to complete this assignment.

    Sincerely,
    Samantha

    1. Dear Samantha,

Your RAZ account should be visible on the platform; I refreshed the information and see your name listed. If you need your password, contact me through Microsoft Teams or e-mail because I am unable to place passwords on the website.

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

  17. Dear Mir. Miller,
I have completed my Thomas Jefferson assignment and have created a meta cognitive page. How am I supposed to upload the metacognitive and show you?

    All the best,
    Maryann Espinal

    1. Dear Maryann,

On your assignment page, you should have a plus sign that allows you to upload files. If you took a picture you could upload it to your computer and then to the assignment. If you built something online, you merely click the plus sign and upload it. In the question channel, there is a link to tutorials that can provide greater depth.

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

  18. Dear Mr. Miller / Mrs. Halloran,
Today I believe is the day me and my peers start our Distance Learning. I am ready for the classes at any time and just want to know when they begin.

    Sincerely,
    Maryann Espinal

    1. Dear Maryann,

You should have been provided login information by the district regarding the platform we will be using. If you have not, please let me know so that we can secure the information that you need.

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

      1. Dear Mr. Miller,
I am aware of the platform we will be utilizing. Again, I wanted to know when the classes will begin.

        Sincerely,
        Maryann Espinal

        1. Dear Maryann,

If you have your login information then you were provided with a start date of the 13th on the document. I am pleased to know that you have all the information you need; I look forward to your efforts on our platform.

          Mr. Miller

  19. Dear Mrs. Halloran,

I have been meaning to ask you a question that concerns me. While we are home, I know that we can address any learning opportunity, but is there a certain learning opportunity that we could be assigned to address? Aside from my question, I hope you are doing well, and you are safe.

    Sincerely,
    Kaitlyn Raynor

    1. Dear Kaitlyn,
Thank you for your good wishes. My family and I are safe and well. I miss being with all of you in Cognitiveunderstandia and I’m hopeful we will be able to communicate and learn together in the near future. As of now, the district is giving instructions for all students to begin addressing the Math and ELA packets once the vacation period has ended. I was informed that they should be arriving in the mail sometime soon. You and your family can access the letter from the district on the pmschools.org home page. As far as your learning plan and focus tasks, life-long learners are always utilizing resources and embracing opportunities to deepen their understanding of concepts. Your class website is a resourceful tool and you should feel free to access it while learning from home. However, there are no required assignments from Mr. Miller or I at this time. I send my best regards to you and your family. Take care and I hope to be in touch soon.
      Sincerely,
      Mrs. Halloran

  20. Dear Mr. Miller:
While looking for the 𝘡𝘰𝘰𝘮 app, I found many different versions of it. Is the app you are talking about called 𝘡𝘰𝘰𝘮 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘶𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴?

    Sincerely,
    Maryann Espinal

    1. Maryann,

Click the link on the learning opportunities page and it should take you to the appropriate application.

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

      1. Dear Mr Miller:
Right now its 2:30 and the learning opportunites link is gone? It was there this morning.

        Sincerely,
        Maryann Espinal

        1. Dear Maryann,

I want to extend my appreciation for your diligence and eagerness to participate in this initiative. However, at this time we have to wait for the school district to make decisions on how they would like to proceed.

          All the Best,
          Mr. Miller

  21. Dear Cognitiveunderstandia:
My parents are coming to a near conclusion that I will not be attending school on Monday.
If so, I just wanted to inform and remember, keep gong and don’t let the panic get to you.

    Sincerely,
    Maryann Espinal

    1. Dear Maryann,
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement and commitment to leading Cognitiveunderstandia.
      Sincerely,
      Mrs. Halloran

  22. Dear Mr. Miller, Mrs. Halloran, and fellow peers,
Throughout the day I found the explanation about striving harder with more effort and care, as well as, presenting our optimal level beneficial, because it shows me how I should be trying harder, because this year is like a waterfall, going very fast and how everyone in Cognitiveunderstandia should be cherishing these moments because this is something that we probably will never receive later in our academic career. This is why Cognitiveunderstandia should stay as twelve states because like you and Mrs. Halloran said everyone has a voice which can make a difference and I believe those words have great meaning and value because it shows how everyone in Cognitiveunderstandia can change in their paths and sustain their states with care and love. Through everyone in Cognitiveunderstandia utilizing their voices they all can lead in the best way as possible without reminders, everyone just needs a second chance to prove how well they can lead their states. The states in Cognitiveunderstandia should be twelve not ten, eight or less because we all are life- long learner whom bring success through mistakes.

    Sincerely,
    Emily Varghese

    1. Dear Emily,
Thank you for that speech and I now understand that I should an individual that can put in one hundred percent effort without having to be told.Your words have really inspired me and I will always try my best when it comes to leading.I love the way you are always leading and I would like to let you know that you deserved the spot of a president.
      Sincerely,
      Jaydon Sulca

      1. Dear Jaydon,
Those kind words truly makes a difference everywhere, especially to me and Cognitiveunderstandia.
To add on, I do agree about every life-long learner trying their best in their academics, and I would like to say that I see you put in effort, though if you think about raising a hand, sometimes someone may place their hand a little high but not as high as they are supposed to do, in thinking that everyone in Cognitiveunderstandia should be try their best to achieve understanding in every opportunity they acquire. I believe that everyone should be interacting with Mrs. Halloran or Mr. Miller about their accomplishments throughout each week or any thoughts they have. I really hope that Cognitiveunderstandia will stay as one

        Sincerely,
        Emily Varghese

  23. Hello, Mr. Miller its been awhile my name is Amaan, you may remember me if I told you I am the kid who sneezed like 50 times in one sitting or even if I told you I got stuck in a sweatshirt, well I wanted to tell you I attended Saxton for my 6th-grade year and then I moved to Texas, that’s all I have to say for now.

    Sincerely,
    Amaan Sandal

    1. Dear Amaan,

Of course I remember you; that journey you had with the sweatshirt is not easily forgotten. Hope all is well and that you are finding success in your academic endeavors. Wishing you all the best as you continue to embark on your journey of learning in Texas.

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

  24. Dear Mr.Miller,

I hope your year has been great so far! I actually have two questions about the trout you have this year. How many do you and your class have? Also, what stage are the trout in? Take your time to answer, no rush.

    Sincerely,
    Gina Fox

    1. Dear Gina,

Hope all is well and you are enjoying your sixth grade experience. In regards to your inquiry, we received approximately five-hundred eggs in December. From this batch of eggs we have successfully hatched about two-hundred fifty alevins. If all goes well, we should have some trout to release this academic year.

      All the Best,
      Mr. Miller

      1. Dear Mr.Miller,

I’m happy to hear that things are already going better than last year. Hopefully the trout are going to stay healthy and survive until the release for you and your class.

        Sincerely,
        Gina Fox

        1. Dear Gina,

Thanks for the well wishes. We will certainly keep you apprised of our process and, if all goes as planned, the release date.

          Sincerely,
          Mr. Miller

    2. Dear Gina Fox,

I am not Mr. Miller but wanted to answer your question about the trout. Our trout are about in the Alevin stage, and with some growing quicker than others, they are near the fingerling stage. Unfortunately, something went around the trout tank, causing a majority to die. We still have some left though! They are nice and healthy! Also since some are growing a bit bigger, they would need some more food which we failed to do for a bit which caused some to eat others. But now that we are feeding them more they aren’t eating each other and are okay! I hope i said enough for what has been going around and hope you are having a great 6th grade year!

      Sincerely,
      Maryann Espinal

  25. Dear Mrs. Hallloran,

This is the 9th time I have been on the Class Website. I stay on the website for about 30 minutes when I have free time. It is amazing to see that peers who are older are using this website up to today. I am very excited to use this website even more on my free time. I might be struggling a little because of the 3 day break we had, including the weekend. But I know that if I pay attention, listen closely, and if it’s the case, then read closely, I will catch up quick. I feel comfortable with the way Cognitiveunderstandia’s economy has been doing, and I hope to reach an even higher amount of money soon. It’s better than having to constantly have to money away.
Anyways, that is all I had to say for today. I will most likely post another comment on the Class Website.

    Sincerely,
    Kaitlyn Raynor

    1. Dear Kaitlyn,
Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for utilizing our class website. It is a valuable resource and I think that the time you spend deepening your understanding of concepts will certainly support you on your quest of becoming a life-long learner. As for Congnitiveunderstandia’s economy, it is important that you continually monitor your account balance, striving towards acquiring revenue and stability. Wishing you a Happy New Year!
      Sincerely,
      Mrs. Halloran

  26. Dear Mr. Miller,
I am glad to say that I have succeeded in the first quarter in Saxton Middle School. I am very grateful that you taught my peers and I things that would be review for middle school, and so far it has! As I said in my last note to you, long term memory has helped me a lot in my academic year so far. Thank you again for all the oppertunities you gave me.
    Sincerely,
    Gabriella Ardito

    1. Dear Gabriella,

Once again, I extend my appreciation for the thoughtful and kind sentiments expressed in your post and offer congratulations on your successful first quarter at Saxton. In addition, I thank you for taking a moment to stop and talk with both Mrs. Halloran and myself. It was great to listen to your achievements and sense the enthusiasm you have for your sixth grade experience. I am pleased to know that you continue to find the strategies of fifth grade useful in the learning opportunities you are currently engaged. Best of luck with your podcast.

      All the Best,
      Mr. Miller

    2. Dear Mr. Miller,
I had a couple of questions about what we learned about on Tuesday. Why did the pilgrims celebrate thanksgiving for three days? Also, I would be pleased if Cognitiveunderstandia learned more about the Pilgrims and Puritans on Monday.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and Mrs. Halloran!
      Sincerely, Jillian Clemenza

  27. Dear Congnitiveunderstandia,

      1. Dear Naomi,
It is so nice to hear from you and thank you for your best wishes. I appreciate your diligence in taking attendance each day and updating me on the progress of the class. I am so excited to return to Cognitveunderstandia and observe the evolution of learners within our learning environment. We are fortunate to have you leading us each day! I hope to see you soon.
        Sincerely,
        Mrs. Halloran

  28. Dear Mr.Miller,
I sent you both what I would like for my background for my speech and my speech. If you did not recieve both or one please notify me and I shall send it again.

    Sincerally, Naomi Amatuegwu

  29. Dear Students,

I was one of the members of the state Astuteformulationbandashire, and here is a breakdown of our name so it is easier to understand. Our state name was based off of Mae Jemison, an engineer, physician, and former NASA astronaut.

Astute: the process in which someone is or shows intellect. Mae Jemison showed great intelligence throughout her life, so we believe that this word fit great in our state name.

Formulation: when something is created or is being created. Mae did very well within her career by generating and formulating great ideas and things to get farther academically, so formulation is the one of the best words to describe her and her actions.

Band: having this word in our state name represented us last year, and will most definitely represent you guys this year, that us astronomers will always stick together, and take every step as a life-long learner as a team, just like a band would.

A: the add-in “a” was put into our state name because it makes the transition from “band” to “shire” flow much easier. Also, someone who is reading Astuteformulationbandashire may find it beneficial that the letter “a” was added into our name for pronunciation purposes.

Shire: either meaning town or county, depending on the situation. This word was actually suggested by Mr.Miller, and it fortunately made it’s way into our very long, and creative state name.

I hope this was helpful! Good luck for this year!

P.S. I apologize that it took me awhile to finally get to making/typing this Mr.Miller.

    Sincerely,
    Gina Fox

    1. Dear Gina,

Just a quick note of appreciation for the wonderfully comprehensive overview you provided regarding the development of Astuteformulationbandashire. Your efforts will be a tremendous resource to the current citizens of the state you created.

Thanks again; it is very much appreciated.

      All the Best,
      Mr. Miller

  30. dear Mr. Miller,

You mentioned there might be a quiz , so will the quiz effect our report cards or is it just to review what we have learned so far?

    Sincerely,
    Kaleb Moore

    1. Dear Kaleb,

Closely reading text is an essential element of developing understanding. As such, all learners should view any learning opportunity as a point in which to demonstrate understanding or a means to develop questions they may have regarding the concept. If a learner has engaged their assignments well and has addressed their questions adequately, they should be more than prepared to demonstrate their understanding whether that be through a quiz, test, conversation or project. As such, all demonstrations of understanding should be seen as an assessment that has value and purpose. Thank you for posting and I look forward to the ideas you will offer regarding Atomic Theory.

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

  31. Dear Mr.Miller,

Today I took my SRI, and the score I received was a 922. I thought I’d share it with you because of the score I received last year. I understand that it’s only the beginning of the year and things could change, but I wanted to share it with you to show the leap of scores. Also, I’ve completed one book so far this year, and I’m starting my second book the beginning of October. Besides from that, I do have 2 questions. Have you distributed your students into cohorts yet? Also, has anyone shown an interest in trout? That’s all!

    Sincerely,
    Gina Fox

    1. Dear Gina,

Congratulations on your growth within your lexile; there is no doubt that you will continue to demonstrate the attributes of a life-long learner and progress. I appreciate you taking the time to share that accomplishment on the blog; it is important that younger students recognize the importance of persevering.
In regards to the states, students have started the process of understanding government and the rationale behind the states. However, I would ask, that when you have a moment, you provide a brief synopsis of Astuteformulationbandashire and how the name was developed. I feel that would be beneficial to the students currently developing that state; no rush. In terms of trout, we have three students who are exhibiting the dedication and commitment demonstrated by you and Gabby last year. Hopefully, they will receive a better selection of eggs.
      Have a Great Week,
      Mr. Miller

      1. Dear Mr.Miller,

Thank you for responding. In regards to the Astuteformulationbandashire synopsis you were explaining, I have a question. Would I do it in a comment, on a word document or somewhere else?

        Sincerely,
        Gina Fox

        1. Dear Gina,

I don’t want this taking much of your time. As such, I would simply ask that you post a comment that reflects your long-term memory as to the meaning of each part of the name. An example would be simply:

Astute = provide the reason for choosing this term.

Your efforts would be greatly appreciated.

          Thank You,
          Mr. Miller

    1. Dear Mr.Miller

Peyton and I said that if Mrs.Halloran does not make a state by October 16th we will give her our state ideas and tell her she can use them for her class.
I’m sorry if my spelling is a little off i’m trying to type with my lizard on the keyboard and he starts running everywhere.

  32. Dear Mr. Miller,

The challenge sessions in the afternoon and early morning is a good idea, because we receive the opportunity to add on to our incomplete papers, something we need assistance in or get a head start on the day. This way we are becoming a very diligent student.

    Sincerely,
    Emily Varghese

    1. Dear Mr.Miller,
I had a great day today because after every time you came to Astuteformulationbanishire to give us feedback or talk to us about volume, when you were finished speaking that gave me a moment or two to actually rethink every thing you said and understand it. I also took about five minutes of my recess to take that feed back you gave me and my cohort and utilized it for self-reflection.

      Sincerely,
      Nazih Dandrich

      1. Dear Mr. Miller I think it’s a great idea to have challenge sessions during lunch time because if a student doesn’t finish there work in time they could do it then and eat there lunch to. I also think it’s a great idea to have a website so the students could write their opinions. I had an idea the other day that all of us as a class can make a project together on describing our thoughts on congnitiveunderstandia
and we could draw a picture to represent us.

    2. dear Mr. Miller I think it’s a very good idea to have challenge sessions during lunch because if a student doesn’t finish their work in time they could do it then and eat lunch. I also think it’s a good idea to have a website so students could share their opinions. I had a idea the other day that all of us as a class could do a project about sharing our thoughts about Cognitiveunderstandia and draw a picture to represent us.

      1. Dear Jillian,

Your creative ideas will certainly be an asset to your peers this year. Perhaps some of your peers can join you in developing a project regarding Cognitiveunderstandia.

        Sincerely,
        Mr. Miller

  33. Dear Mr.Miller,

I hope you’re having a successful start to your 2019-2020 school year. My first few days in Saxton Middle School have been great, and I know this year is going to be a successful one. Aside from that, I’d like to thank you , and Mrs.Halloran for everything you’ve taught me last year, from S.L.A.N.T. to dividing mixed numbers. Even though middle school is a much different learning environment then elementary school, the mistakes I made and the success I had in your class will be helpful to navigate middle school. Also, I wish the best of luck to you, and your new students for this year. I hope to see you soon.

    Sincerely,
    Gina Fox

      1. Dear Mr. Miller

You gave an inspiring speech last Friday. Now I am questioning if I can be a good Supreme court Judge. In my notebook I wrote down how I can become a good and responsible Judge, I also wrote down things I need to improve upon.

Have a great day off! Sincerely,
        Jillian

        1. Dear Jillian,

Thank you for your kind words. I am pleased that you have found the discussion regarding leadership to be meaningful. More importantly, I want to commend you on your decision to reflect and question how you can be a Supreme Court Justice; your actions are certainly attributes consistent with being a leader. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the blog, as they will influence your peers to be equally reflective in their decisions regarding the elections.

          Sincerely,
          Mr. Miller

  37. Dear Mr. Miller:

As middle school comes to an end. I want to thank you for all you have taught me. I can pull information from you class even today. Although I miss my time at Barton and I will miss Saxton. I can’t wait for what high school will bring. Thank you again for giving me the knowledge I needed for middle school and preparing me for high school although I didn’t even know it was happening.

    Sincerely,

    Paige Driscoll

    1. Dear Paige,

Thank you for taking the time to offer your kind and thoughtful words. It is hard to believe that your time at Saxton is coming to a close. However, I am certain the new journey you are about to embark upon at the high school will provide wonderful opportunities. All the best in your future endeavors.

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

  38. Dear Mr.Miller,

When I show you my presentation about phenology, would you be reading the presentation to yourself and you would just be telling me when to go to the next slide, or would I read the presentation to you and you ask me questions at the end like Ms.Boushe did it?

    Sincerely,
    Gina Fox

    1. Dear Mr. Miller,
I have enjoyed my first few days of school. I have enjoyed all the learning opportunities you’ve given to the class. Also I am very excited about the learning opportunities we will be getting in the future! I believe after I finish 5th grade in your class I will be a whole different student! Thank you for all the opportunities.

      Sincerely,
      Maryann Espinal

  39. Dear Mr.Miller,
I have a question that I would like to ask you that I thought you could possibly have the answer to. Let’s say someone dug a hole all the way through the earth (even though that’s technically impossible), how long would it take you to fall all the way through the hole in relation to digging a hole straight through another object in space like Jupiter, Pluto and the Sun? Hopefully you can answer my question with a reasonable answer.

    Sincerely,
    Gina Fox

  40. Dear Mr.Miller,

I told Gabby what you explained to me today about the grips. Although, she didn’t believe me, so Gabby and I will choose the replacing item on Monday, February 11th, giving you time to place the order before break.

    Sincerely,
    Gina Fox

  41. Dear Mr. Miller,

I have had this question in my mind for a few days now, and I still can’t find the answer. What I’ve been wondering is why there is a city in Canada named Hamilton if Alexander Hamilton was an important person for the United States. I’ve been thinking you might have an answer.

    Sincerely,
    Oliver Visa

    1. Dear Oliver,

I would have the answer; however, I believe that information can be acquired through a little research. I will tell you that the reasoning for the name is not related to Alexander Hamilton.

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

      1. Dear Mr. Miller,

I have done some deeper research and found that the city was named after George Hamilton (not the actor), who was the settler and city founder.

        Sincerely,
        Oliver Visa

        1. Dear Oliver,

Thank you for your response. However, I do have a question to deepen your inquiry: When was the city founded and can you provide greater detail as to the individual and how he contributed to society ?

          Sincerely,
          Mr. Miller

  42. Dear Mr.Miller,
    Tonight I asked my mom if she knew who Sir Isaac Newton is. Her response was “yes”. I decided that I wanted to start a debate with her, as well as my dad, to see if they REALLY knew who he was and what other concepts were. Turns out that they only knew what was at the surface and not what was beneath the surface. Resulting in me winning the debate. I just wanted to tell you this because I thought it was pretty funny. (; Also, thank you for teaching and making my peers and I go deeper into concepts, so I will grow and excel as a learner. Or possibly be smarter then my family one day. (;

    Sincerely,
    Gina Fox

P.S. Sorry this comment was really long.

    1. Dear Gina,

Thanks for sharing; I am pleased to know that you are finding benefits from engaging in deep learning. Continue the diligent effort.

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

  45. Dear Mr.Miller,

I would like to come back to your page and thank you for giving me the amazing knowledge I have today. I still come on to your page and explore the diversity of your class. Middle school has less challenges than your class did which is something I miss from your class.

    Sincerely,
    Emma Horgan

    1. Dear Emma,

    Kevin Zheng

PS Issac wanted me to say to you that you are a great teacher.

    1. Dear Kevin,

Thank you for your continued interest in all that you helped to build and develop. As of today, we have not had elections and therefore only have a temporary government in place. As far as New Douglassland, students will be starting the process of entering into states in the next few weeks. I would imagine that if you check back in early November, I will be able to provide the answers to your questions.

Tell Isaac that I thank him for his compliment.

  55. Dear Mr.Miller,
I hope you had great summer so far. On the last day of school you gave us advice to continue our portfolio. That’s what I did. As a result, I was surprised to find out how much my writing has change from 3rd grade 4th grade and 5th grade. From vocabulary to spelling of words to handwriting their is so much improvement. The topic and concluding sentences were basic in begining of 4th grade and 3rd grade. I also relized that in my 3rd grade writing pecies i was missing tons of commas. In math i have also improved from 3rd 4th and 5th grade.
    Sincerely, Qasim Zubair

We received this material from Mr. Fisher, the man who delivered the material. He brang us 2 chillers, 3 bottles of tank ecquitment and a box with more trout ecquitment. We took 1 chiller and Mrs. Halloran took the rest (Kevin and I gave the material to her). I hope this will answer some of your questions.

    Sincerely,
    Issac Varghese

  75. Dear Katherine ,Tatianna and Azlynn

Today some of us found out we are going to be writing our personal narrative. I am excided about writing a personal narrative because writing a personal narrative is a way for us to learn more about each other. For exsample last year I found out that Jake had a pet fish. So that is one reason why we write personal narrative.
    Sincerely,
    Emma Horgan

Today is a great day because I have 100% on my test. The way I have a good grade is to make flashcards and don’t rush beacause it is not a race.

    Sincerely,
    Lilly

    1. Dear lilly,
I think that skill is amazing m maby I’ll use that skill next time I take a test Sincerely ,

  87. Dear Mr.Miller and Peers,

Today I have learned about the Three Branches of Government. The Branches of Government are the Legislative branch, Executive branch and the Judicial branch. In the Legislative branch there is the Congress which is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives. In the Executive branch there is the president, vice president and the cabinet members. In the Judicial branch there is the supreme court and other federal courts. These are all the 3 Branches of Government that I learned today, ( Olina said hi to you and your class ).

    Sincerely,
    Kevin Zheng & Olina Zheng
PS. See you at extra help.

    1. Dear,Kevin

I have also been studing the 3 branches of the goverment legislative branch makes laws
      and executive branch signs laws.

      Sincerly,
      Amaan Sandal

    2. Dear Kevin,

      Keep up the diligent work.

In an effort to deepen your understanding, you may want to research the role of cabinet members; what are their responsibilities?

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

      1. Dear Mr. Miller

I did a research on the topic cabinet members and I found that there are 15 departments. Each department has their own responsibilities. The 15 departments are

        The Secretary of State,
        Secretary of the treasury,
        Secretary of defense,
        Attorney General,
        Secretary of Interior,
        Secretary of Agricultural,
        Secretary of commerce ,
        Secretary of Lobor ,
        Secretary Health and Human Services,
        Secretary of Energy ,
        Secretary of Education ,
        Secretary of Homeland Security,
        Secretary of Transportation,
        Secretary of Veterans’ Affairs ,
the Secretary of housing and Urban Development .

Cabinet members advice the president when he needs it .

        Sincerely ,
        Issac Varghese

        1. Dear Issac,

Outstanding job and impressive diligence on your part.

In an effort to further your understanding, you might want to determine the focus of each cabinet member. For example, the Treasury Secretary focuses on the economics of our country.

          Keep up the Good Work,
          Mr. Miller

  88. Dear Peers,
I enjoyed do the experiments .I think the year will go by really fast. But we can learn more by communicating with each other, like posting on the blog. Mr.Miller gave us the priviledge of working in cohorts we should work wisely.
    sincerely,
    Emma Horgan

  89. Dear Mr.Miller,

Today was a fun day. Today you were not here so I will tell you what happened. We worked in our science fusion text books. I was in a group of four. We almost got to the end if we had 1 more minute we could of completed it. At library we went over lock downs and lock outs and we also picked out 2 books. I cant wait for tomorrow because tomorrow you are going to meet my mom. Thank you for the fun day.

    Sincerely,
    Jake

  90. Dear Mr. Miller

I love learning and doing experiments with Hope,Lilly.H,Joshua, and you.
I hope you have a good day and good tomorrow.

    Sincerely,
    Josiah Watson

  91. Dear Mr.Miller
Thank you for teaching my peers and I about concave, convare, and metacognition. Now I know what all three of the words mean.Concave means it’s the bottom of sphere in a bubble form. Convare means it’s the top of a sphere in a bubble form. Metacognition is thinking about your thinking. I went online found out that meta in metacognition means includes Knowledge about when and how to use particulan strategies for learning or for problem solving. Also cognition in metacognition means thing. So if meta and cognition is metacognition that would mean metacognition means thinking about your thinking.

    Sincerely,
    Azlynn

  92. Mr. Miller,

I think class is really interesting so far with the stuff we are learning so far and I think the games we are playing are fun. This year is going really good so far!!!👍👍🙂🙂

  93. Dear peers and Mr.Miller, my thoughts on the penn lab experiment was that the experiment tought me a lot about surface tension because that is something I never knew so Mr.Miller thank you for teaching me that and having me as one of your students. Sincerely Tatianna Benjamin

  94. Dear Mr. Miller,
I enjoy being in your class and I enjoy learning about science. I think I need some extra help because sometimes after I finish the active reading I dont really understand everything.

    Thank You
    Josiah

  95. Dear Peers ,
I did some research about Surface Tension and Variable. Surface Tension means the force that causes
the molecules on the sueface of a liquid to be pushed together and form a layer. Variable means the
one that is manipulated and the one that is observed or measured in the experiment.

    Sincerely,
    Katherine Alvarado

  96. Dear Mr. Miller,

It is an honor to be in your class and I thank you for teaching us about metacognition. I did some extra research on metacognition and found out that meta in metacognition means beyond and cognition means thinking, understanding, learning, remember and much more. Thus I now know that metacognition means beyond understanding.

    Sincerely,
    Issac Varghese

    1. Dear Issac,

Thank you for the kind words. I am impressed with your research on metacognition; your post will be very valuable to the rest of your peers. Keep up the good work.

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

  97. Dear peers,
I think using concept maps will help us gain knowledge because we can build off of our ideas and each other’s ideas. So if we work together we can help each other make bigger webs because we can share ideas.

    Sincerely,
    Emma Horgan

  98. Dear Mr. Miller,

I am looking forward to doing our concept maps. I am going to tell you how I want to use my concept
map because I did not stand up on the carpet today at school to share my ideas. I will participate more, I promise . I will use my concept map by sharing my ideas with my peers.

  99. Dear Peers,

I think the story Mr,Miller told use was amazing because I did not know that people could survive off of potatoes. So for that is why I really liked this story.

    Sincerely,
    Emma

  100. Dear Mr.Miller,

  102. Dear Mr.Miller,
How have you been? I have started building upon my portfolio over the summer. I took all the documents from my folder and started adding them to my portfolio. Along with this comment is a letter about my experience with this portfolio. I have learned so much from you and will be using them next year.
    Sincerely,
Olina Zheng ( Your student from 2016 )

    1. Dear Olina,

Thank you for the kind words both in your post and the video you created with Nicholas; it is truly appreciated. I am glad to know that you are continuing to build upon the wonderful portfolio you built throughout the year. There is no doubt that you will continue to excel in all your endeavors next year.

      All the Best,
      Mr. Miller

  103. Dear Peers,

Today was a success at Swan Lake!I had alot of fun finding Macro-invertebrates with my group. My group and I found about 20 Macro-invertebrates in all.We found one baby eel and one leach. My group took the pH test .The pH was 7 which is healthy for the trout.I think Swan Lake is a Healthy ecosystem.
    Sincerly,
    Thomas Kelly

  104. Dear Peers,

I like how we got to search for different kinds of Macro-invertebrates in swan lake and how we got to look at them closely. I also caught a leech, I think it was 2 to 3 inches long! Thank you for this field trip.

    Sincerely,
    Connor

  105. Dear Collabaorative Team,
Last Thursday morning at 9:45 your class and my class went to Fish Thicket Perseve. Your class probily saw a Tepe like some of my classmates and I. I took two picures of the environment. I have recordings of birds chirping. We started picking up garbage because if we don’t pick up the garbage some of the animals such as biotic factors might get harmed and we do not want that. We are being stewards! Collabaorative Team, how do you think Fish Thicket was? What is your experince about Fish Thicket? If you have time please write back to me about Fish Thicket.

    Sincerely,
    Azlynn Long

  106. Dear Mr. Miller ‘ s 5th grade class,
Today I saw a bird but it wasn’t the mother duck. The mother duck comes every spring. She comes to lay her eggs and make a new nest. She might use sticks, mud, leaves, grass and rocks to build her new nest. This is what I saw in the rock garden: a bird, a birdfeeder and a bench. I think it is a healthy environment for her and her babies. This morning, the mother duck came back to the school to lay her eggs.

    Sincerely,
    Jake Accomando

    1. Dear Justin
p.s. If you still go on the blog.

I am so excited because you make everything look fun. So I am now in he’s class and I realized it is not easy. You are my role model.

      sincerely,
      Lilly

  107. Dear peers,
My class and I visited Mrs.Washington’s class and we got to see their tower garden. We learned plants can grow without water and guess what! The class does pH tests to the water too and we are thinking maybe we could let 2 kids at a time come to your class to observe the tank.
    sincerely,
    Lilly

  108. Dear Mr. Miller,
This is for the stock market game rationale. I will be sharing the topic sentence and concluding sentence. The topic sentence is ” Apple is a company that is recognized for the equipment that they build , which is electronic devices”. The concluding sentence is ” Apple is one of the top 3 companies for me to invest in, but when it comes to dividends and prices they are just right, not too much and not too low.
    Sincerely,
    Olina

  109. Dear Peers,

I just wanted to know if you figured how to remove the fungus? What do you think caused all the fungus? I want to help you.

  112. Dear Olina,
I wonder how many Brook Trout are in the tank and how many died. And when can I share the Brook Tront Life Cycle with my group and how many are opaque.

    Sincerely, Katherine Alvarado

    1. Dear Katherine,
I would be glad to answer your question. In total, their are 385 trout remaining and 15 trout have died.I believe that there is 12 opaque trout that have died. If you have time on Thursday January 28, 2016 at 12:35 that would be great.
      Sincerely,
      Olina Zheng

  113. Dear Mr.Miller,

I would like to inform you that I have received a response from the President. At first I was confused but then I remembered when we wrote to the President last school year. I received a letter, pictures, games, and a paper about the President. So I would like to thank you for being my teacher and helping me in school and with my academics. I’m pleased to tell you that I have made the principles list for the first Quarter. I am always ahead of the class. When the teacher introduces something new, you have already taught it to me. So once again thank you so much!

    Sincerely,
    Isabelle Baginski

    1. Dear Isabelle,

Congratulations on earning a place on the Principal’s List; it is certainly not a surprise.Your diligence and earnest approach to school is a wonderful example to your peers.
In addition, I was pleased to read that your outstanding letter to the President received a response from the White House. Wishing you all the best as you continue on your sixth grade academic journey.

      Sincerely,
      Mr. Miller

  114. Dear Peers,

I would like to inform you to post a comment on the Jamestown Adventure game. I think it was a game that was very interesting and something to learn from. The things you can gain from this game is that it is very hard to start a village so if you thought you could probably make a better village than the leader of Jamestown, think again. I would like you to also post a comment on atoms. I would like you to give tips for studying, not answers to the questions on the quiz. If you do these favors of mine it will benefit all of us. Thank you for the efforts if you do so.
    Sincerely,
    Justin Schlendorf

  115. Dear Mr.Miller,

I am very sorry that I have forgotten to go on razkids. So if

I will try my best not to forgett.

    Sincerely,
    Justin Schlendorf

  116. Dear MR.Miller,

The Articles of Confederation is a very interesting topic. I
feel I would be able possibly next week to present to you. I have
now a good understanding of both sides, the government and the
farmers. I would like to read more about the Articles of Confederation
so if you have any more reading about the Articles of Confederation
    I would be pleased.

    Sincerely,
    Justin Schlendorf

  117. Dear Mr. Miller,
I was just studying the timeline events when I noticed something. At the Leif Ericsson paragraph it said that Leif Ericsson was a Viking. I thought that Leif Ericsson was just a normal person that landed on Newfoundland. Is Leif Ericsson really a Viking?
    Sincerely,
    Olina

    1. Dear Mr.Miller
Remember when I posted a comment about Leif Ericsson.
Well on the vikings document I found out that Leif Ericsson was a Viking .
Was Leif Ericsson mean because you mentioned that vikings were mean and they sometimes could be nice?
      Sincerely ,
      Olina

  122. Dear Mr. Miller I found a class account sheet on the blog. Can I print it and bring it to class to use it for class.

    From Samuel Joel Guzman.

  123. Dear Julianna,

I would like to acknowledge what you posted about the planets and all of there Greek names. So I thank you on that comment.

    Sincerely,
    Isabelle Baginski

  124. Dear class,
If you can think back to when we were learning about the planets and names, I know that Pluto is the God of the underworld (a.k.a Hades) I will tell you all of the Roman and Greek mythology names.
Mercury (Hermes) messenger to the gods
    Venus (Aphrodite) goddess of beauty
Jupiter (Zeus) king of all gods
    Mars (Ares) God of war
Saturn (Cronus) God of agriculture and harvest
Uranus (I do know the name) God of the heavens
Neptune (Poseidon) God of the sea
    Earth (none)
There you go! Hope this helps; in a way.
    Sincerely,
    Julianna Tapler

    1. Dear Julianna,

I acknowledged your comment about the Gods that the planets were named after, and I noticed that you didn’t have a name for Uranus. So, I did a little bit of research and found out that another name for Uranus is Caelus. If you believe that is correct, please respond.

      Sincerely,
      Sam

  125. Dear class,
I just want to tell you that tomorrow is Danielle Marullo’s birthday. Even though she is not in our class, we still need to wish her a happy birthday. Just a side note, on the 15th, it is Henry’s birthday. Along with Jun Kai and myself. Wish you all the best and many more birthdays to come!
    Sincerely,
    Julianna Tapler

  126. Dear Class,

As a reminder we have intramural’s tomorrow so don’t forget to bring sneakers.

    Sincerely,
    Isabelle Baginski

  127. Dear Peers,

In our math homework today when you are doing double division you may find yourself having to count the first digits by 3 or you may need to use 2 different numbers to count first.I hope this will help you.

    Sincerely,
    Isabelle Baginski

  128. Dear Mr.Miller,

When I was doing my homework there was a caption on page 141 and it stated the colonists attacked the tax collectors, they tared and feathered them and poured tea into their mouths. This reminded me of a video I watched last year.It is called”Liberty kids” and in the video it explained what being tared and feathered is like.Tar is a hot oil that sticks to your skin and they put feathers on you to make you look silly. So the tar gives you a great deal of pain so it isn’t very pleasant.

    Sincerely,
    Isabelle Baginski

  129. Dear Mr.Miller and classmates,
Sorry I haven’t been on the blog lately. I want to wish you all a happy 2015! I hope you all had fun and I hope you enjoy me as your president for the second trimester!
    Sincerely,
    Julianna Tapler

  130. Dear Mr. Miller and my peers,
I know it is a little late, and I am sorry, but I hope everyone has had a merry Christmas and will have a happy New Year.
    Sincerely,
    Sam

  131. Dear Kiara,
Like Gianna said, thank you for the kind words.
(P.s. You spelled my name lowercase.)
    Sincerely,
    Samuel Lorenzo

  132. Dear peers,
In my opinion our class did a great job in the elections.
Congratulations to everyone who ran for a position and accomplish being in the government of our class!
Good job on those who ran and didn’t win, I believe we will all accomplish that position of the government
    next trimester.
    Sincerely,
    Gianna Sacco

    1. Dear Gianna and sam,

Great job on your speeches. I think you are perfect for your parts.
